Canada is home to a section of the world’s largest forest in the world – the boreal forest, wrapping around the northern hemisphere. This forest produces much of the air we breathe, influences global climate and creates microclimates. The boreal forest is a spring nursery to millions of migratory birds and holds the world’s largest source of surface freshwater.
From a conservation point of view, there is not one single activity, but several issues creating stress on the boreal forest and the wildlife within it. Pollution, climate change, and land development are among the forest’s stressors. Government protection remains at twelve percent, and work continues to preserve large areas of land to maintain the forest’s ability to function. BC’s urban environment is also home to planted forests in parks and urban settings where we can manage and admire them. Now is the time of year to book an appointment for pruning your trees in preparation for winter storms and spring regeneration.
